Essex Indoor Champs‏

Lee Valley once again hosted the Essex Indoor Championships with continued success for Basildon A.C athletes.

In the under 13 girls 200m, there was a commanding win from Shannon McNeil (29.76) to add to her 60m silver from the day before(9.10 final, 8.88 in heat). Daisy Pointing ran a solid 800m race for silver (2.44.36) with her team mate Tilly Aitmarri finishing a respectable sixth (3.06.50).

Alice Perkins had a busy weekend in the under 15 girls where she competed in the 60m (9.90 heat), 200m (33.63 heat) and 300m (6th - 52.97). She was joined by Victoria Jones in the shorter sprints, both gaining valuable experience (60m heat - 9.24, 200m heat - 31.39).
Billy Pullan made his way around the four laps for the under 15 boys 800m to finish a creditable fifth (2.27.99).

There were promising performances in the under 17 women from training partners Jess Quick and Georgia Green-Muid. Quick took double silver in the sprints (60m - 8.09 PB, 200m - 26.75). Green-Muid ran back to back personal bests in the 60m hurdles to finish fifth (9.33) before going on to smash her 200m personal best by a second to dip under 27 seconds for the first time. Unfortunately Green-Muid just missed out on a medal in a tight final by finishing fourth (26.96 heat, 27.07 final).

The under 17 men saw Mitchell Etheridge once again take gold in the pole vault (3.60m) in what is proving a successful indoor campaign. Ryan O'Sullivan made a welcome return from injury to take gold in the 60m (7.40) despite a stumble from the blocks.

In the junior women; Gemma Kersey continued her golden indoor season, taking gold in the 1500m with an indoor personal best (4.40.97). Sade Bailey competed through a foot injury to earn bronze in the high jump where all three medallists cleared 1.50m.
Kirsty Shepherd took a break from her busy university schedule to finish sixth (27.84 heat, 27.93 final). Hannah Jones made her indoor debut over 200m, but unfortunately failed to qualify for the final (30.74).

The senior women saw Karen Goode defend her 800m crown with a gun to tape victory (2.17.9). Heidi Nicholas was another to defend a title, this time in the 60m with a season's best (8.05). Nicholas also took gold in the 60m hurdles (9.49), silver with the same height as gold in the high jump (1.55m) and an under par performance in the long jump for bronze (4.80m).

Lone senior man, James Tydeman won the 1500m with a championship best performance (4.04.31).
