Several senior Basildon A.C athletes represented Essex at the Inter-Counties in Ashford.
In the match, the Essex Men emerged victorious once again with the women finishing third despite numerous last minute drop outs. As a result the Essex team retained their overall title.
In the men, Mark Dyble finished fifth in the A string 100m (10.92) and second in the B string 200m (22.15) before going on to help the 4 x 100m squad to fourth in a tightly contested race.
Another sprinter, Matt Harrison won the B string 400m (48.98) and later joined the 4 x 400m team to secure third place.
Mark Sanford came in second in the B string 5000m (15.58.51).
The women saw Anna Whitfield run a season's best in her 1500m (4.55.65) to finish second in the B string and she completed her day with a leg of the 4 x 400m where the team finished fourth.
Heptathlete Heidi Nicholas was on the go continuously all day notching up points. Nicholas started her day with fifth in the A 100m (12.55), followed by third in the A long jump (5.24m), victory over the B string 100m hurdles (15.3), a 400m PB to finish third in the B string (61.77). Nicholas also triple jumped for the first time in fifteen years to finish fifth in the A string (10.25m) before contributing legs in the second placed 4 x 100m and fourth placed 4 x 400m relays.
